Learning outcomes:
Knowledge about reprocessing of medical products, nosocomial infections, microbial air- and water quality, food hygiene;
Classification of different medical products, assessment of risks for nosocomial infections, assessment of different hygienic test methods.
Course Requirements: Basic knowledge in medical microbiology
Content:

• Epidemiology, diagnostic and prevention of the most current nosocomial infections
• Principles of reprocessing of medical products (cleaning,disinfection, strerilisation). Reprocessing of several differrent important medical products e.g. endoscopes, minimal surgery instruments, dialysis machine, ventilators. Different methods of disinfection and sterilisation procedures.
• Principles of microbial testing of environmental samples e.g. air, water, surfaces, indicators for disinfection or sterilisation processes.
• Principles of study designs required for pre-market approvals of medical products.
• Principles of food hygiene
• Principles of transmission modes of pathogens and adequate prevention measures depending on the respective pathogen (infection control measures)
